Being passionate about something is one thing, having the freedom to live that passion is something special.

Having been privileged enough to coach professionally and working with some of the best players the world has ever seen, Gerhard Maree is taking that experience and hoping to create a franchise that makes a difference. Not only on the field as cricketers, but also off the field as human beings.

No coach can ever claim that he produced a player, but we all have a role to play in the development of people. From the parent who supports, the teacher that introduces, the coach that develops and the specialist that polishes, we all have our role to play. This is what the Hornets are about, creating an environment where players with the passion and love for this beautiful game, gets the opportunity to grow and reach their full potential – whatever that may be.

The Hornets are committed to grow the game, not only in our traditional cricket centres, but we will travel, identify and develop players from all areas across South Africa.

There are so many talented players in small towns across our country that only need opportunities to develop into possible superstars of this game.

Being involved in and introducing new players to environments such as the FPL, creates a sense of belonging and an emotional attachment to something that has been here long before us and will still be here long after we are gone. It is our responsibility to leave the game in a better place than what we found it in.

FPL is the future and as the Director of cricket at the Bloem Hornets, I am a fortunate man.
